The type of content Newgrounds is known for today

Newgrounds has an extraordinary collection of flash animations and games. Since Tom Fulp opened up the "Portal" in 1999, innumerable amounts of user-generated content were published on the website. The leading creators on the website were male young adults or teenagers who at least knew how to play around with Flash software. And following the trend of early internet websites, these teenagers and young adults had a taste for edgy humor. Fulp also fit in this category as one of his earliest games was Club a Seal, which he made a sequel of. The most popular creations submitted on the site were mainly comedic but were definitely inspired by the humor of the likes of South Park, so creations such as Telebubby Fun Land(pictured) and Pico's School, a game where a student has to survive and take down the school shooters that have taken over his school. That game is not shy with violence and gore, but it is also filled with comedy a teenager would love, from phallic to poop jokes. Since a large majority of the creators in early Newgrounds were actual teenagers, the quality of these creations varied heavily. The vast majority of Flash creations submitted on Newgrounds are made by teenagers who made their creations using the family computer, so the majority of the user generated were low quality, but the users enjoyed them nonetheless. As the site grew older, its users and creators did as well. As these teenagers continued to make their animations and games, they got better with each project. Many of these creators that started out making crude animations can now create highly detailed and high-quality creations. Modern-day Newgrounds produces the same type of content, but it is a bit less edgy.

It is important to understand that Newgrounds, since its inception, was fairly diverse in content and even more so today. The majority of the games and movies published on Newgrounds are not edgy, and some even dealt with serious issues like LGBTQ awareness and intolerance. Yet, these were overshadowed by the popular edgy content on the website.

The website is also well known for its tons of NSFW content. Pornography has been a massive aspect of the website since its early days, and today it has a more prominent standing than before. The most played game on Newgrounds is a Flash porn game. The porn community on Newgrounds is also interestingly the most diverse and liberal community on Newgrounds; there is undoubtedly a little bit of something for everyone. Similarly to the games and animations, the quality of this type of content has also considerably grown and is much more professional.

Today, Newgrounds is more than a flash website. In 2012 Newgrounds expanded by allowing HTML5, MP4, etc. The amount of content being made on Newgrounds blew up exponentially. Art and audio sections were also added to the website making the "Everything by Everyone" not just a slogan but a mantra.
